System Requirements
Minimum iOS version: iOS 18.0
SpeakerView requires iOS 18.0 or later. This isn’t an arbitrary cutoff — it’s required because SpeakerView’s translation feature relies on a specific batch-translation capability that Apple only introduced in the Translation framework starting with iOS 18. Supporting older iOS versions would mean losing the ability to translate all of a speech’s cards efficiently in one pass.
Checking your iOS version
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone (this is the iPhone’s own Settings app, not SpeakerView’s).
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
- Look at the iOS Version line.
If you’re below iOS 18.0, you’ll need to update before SpeakerView will run.
Updating your iPhone
- Open Settings → General → Software Update.
- If an update is available, tap Update Now (or Download and Install).
- Your device needs a reasonably charged battery and, usually, a Wi-Fi connection to download the update.
Which iPhones support iOS 18?
Apple publishes iOS 18 compatibility by device model on its own site — as a rule of thumb, if your iPhone can currently update to iOS 18 or later in Settings → General → Software Update, it will run SpeakerView. If your specific iPhone model doesn’t offer an iOS 18 update at all, that device isn’t able to run SpeakerView, unfortunately, since Apple no longer offers OS updates for it.
Other requirements
- Storage: A small amount of free space is needed for the app itself, plus roughly 50–200 MB per language if you use translation (see Supported Languages for Translation).
- Internet connection: Not required for normal use. Wi-Fi is only needed the first time you translate into a new language, to download that language’s model. Everything else — importing files, presenting, navigating, the pacing timer — works fully offline.
- iPad: SpeakerView is built for iPhone; if you’re running it on an iPad it will generally work via iPhone compatibility mode, but the layout is not specifically optimized for the larger screen.
