Linked Page Won't Load
If you tap a web link in your notes (see Sharing Links in Your Notes) and the page appears blank, stuck, or never shows up, work through the steps below.
What to Expect Normally
When you tap a working link, the page should load within a few seconds on both your iPad and your external display, with a banner on your iPad showing the site’s address and a Close button. If instead you see a blank white or gray screen that never changes, something has prevented the page from loading.
Step-by-Step Checklist
1. Check Your Internet Connection
This is by far the most common cause. Since this feature loads a real web page over the internet:
- Confirm your iPad is connected to Wi-Fi (check the Wi-Fi icon in your status bar).
- Try opening any website in Safari to confirm your internet connection is working at all.
- If your school’s Wi-Fi requires a login page or has restricted access to certain sites, the page you’re linking to may be blocked by your network, not by BlackboardView.
2. Double-Check the Web Address
A web address with a typo, missing https://, or an incorrect spelling won’t load.
Go back to your notes and confirm the address is typed correctly, exactly as it would
be if you typed it into a browser.
3. Consider Whether the Site Itself Is Down or Blocking Access
Some websites don’t allow themselves to be shown inside another app’s built-in web view for security reasons, even though they work fine in Safari. If a specific site consistently won’t load in BlackboardView but works normally in Safari, this may be the reason — try a different source for the same content if possible.
4. Close and Try Again
Tap Close to dismiss the stuck page, then tap the link again from your notes. A temporary network hiccup is sometimes all it takes.
5. Restart the App
If the page still won’t load after trying a fresh tap, close BlackboardView completely and reopen it, then try the link again.
A Note on Error Messages
Unlike a browser, BlackboardView doesn’t currently show an on-screen error message when a page fails to load (for example, due to no internet connection or a broken link) — the page view will simply stay blank. This isn’t a sign that something is broken beyond the page failing to load; it just means there’s no descriptive message telling you why it failed. Working through the checklist above will resolve the vast majority of cases.
