Sharing Links in Your Notes
If your notes include a web address, BlackboardView can show that web page to your class right from within the app — no need to switch to a browser or another app mid-lesson.
Where This Works
This feature only works with web addresses typed into your private Notes — it does
not apply to your Blackboard content. If you type a web address (like
https://example.com) directly into your notes, BlackboardView automatically
recognizes it and makes it tappable. You don’t need any special formatting or tags —
just type the address normally as part of your notes text.
What Happens When You Tap a Link
Tapping a recognized link does not open Safari or leave the app. Instead:
- The web page loads inside BlackboardView itself.
- It appears full-screen on your projector or external display for your class to see.
- It also appears on your iPad, in place of your Notes/Blackboard/Both view, with a banner at the top showing the site’s address and a Close button.
Having the page open on your iPad as well as the projector is intentional — some web pages (like a video with sound muted by default) need you to tap something directly on that page to interact with it, and the projector screen has no touch input at all. Your iPad copy is the one you can actually tap and interact with.
Closing the Page
When you’re done, tap Close on your iPad. This removes the web page from both your iPad and the projected screen at the same time, returning you to your normal Notes/Blackboard/Both view. Your students never have any way to close it themselves — that control always stays with you.
Leaving the teaching session entirely (exiting or closing the lesson) also automatically closes any open web page, so you never leave a stray page up on the projector by accident.
Video and Audio: One Important Limitation
If the linked page includes a video that starts playing automatically, please be aware of this limitation: the iPad copy and the projected copy are two completely separate copies of the page. This means:
- If you unmute, pause, or scroll on one copy, it does not affect the other copy.
- If a video needs sound to play through your classroom’s speakers (connected via your projector or external display), simply unmuting the video on your iPad will not make it audible through the room’s speakers — because that’s a different, separate copy of the page.
If you need a class to hear audio from a linked page, you may need to interact with the projected copy’s audio settings directly at the display (if that’s possible for your setup), or consider playing audio through another method for that portion of your lesson. This is a known limitation, not a bug — we wanted to be upfront about it rather than have it surprise you mid-class.
