Teleprompter Mode Setup
Teleprompter Mode lets you use SpeakerView with a physical teleprompter rig — the kind that uses a half-mirror (“beam splitter”) glass in front of a camera lens, letting you read text while appearing to look directly into the camera.
Why the text needs to be mirrored
Teleprompter rigs work by reflecting a screen’s image off an angled sheet of half-mirrored glass positioned in front of the camera. You read the reflection in the glass while the camera shoots straight through it. Because you’re reading a reflection, the screen underneath actually needs to display the text horizontally flipped — otherwise the reflection you read would appear backwards.
Teleprompter Mode does exactly that: it mirrors SpeakerView’s display horizontally so that, once bounced off your teleprompter glass, the text reads correctly.
Turning it on
- Tap the gear icon on the home screen to open Settings.
- Toggle Teleprompter Mode on.
The screen will immediately flip horizontally — this is expected, and only looks “wrong” because you’re not yet viewing it through the mirror glass.
Important: Only turn this on when your phone is actually mounted in a teleprompter rig. If you leave it on while just holding the phone normally, the text will read backwards.
Setting up your rig
- Mount your iPhone in your teleprompter’s phone tray, screen facing the mirror glass, exactly as your rig’s manufacturer instructs.
- Turn on Teleprompter Mode in SpeakerView before starting your presentation.
- Tap Start Presentation.
- Look into the camera/glass — the reflected text should now read normally, left to right.
If your specific rig has its own adjustment (for example, a physical mirror angle or camera position), consult that rig’s manual for the physical setup — SpeakerView’s Teleprompter Mode only handles the horizontal text flip.
Navigating while using a teleprompter rig
Since your phone is mounted in the rig, tapping the screen to advance cards usually isn’t practical. This is a great use case for a Bluetooth remote — either a presentation clicker or a camera shutter remote — so you can advance cards from a distance without touching the mounted phone. Turning it off
Toggle Teleprompter Mode off in Settings any time you’re using SpeakerView normally (handheld, or on a stand without mirror glass) — leaving it on outside of a teleprompter rig will make the text unreadable.
